That's why it's such a slippery slope.

Y'all do realize that the NRA has convinced Congress to force the CDC not to research the causes and effects of gun violence, right? This might be the single most ridiculous position of the NRA and the gun nuts. To me, it smells like a cover-up. If having more people owning firearms would reduce the scourge of gun violence, then why not open the floodgates and let the research show it? Why exactly is the NRA so afraid of scientific research?

Yes. Not sure why you would need to ask that since both of our posts make it clear that we know this.

Well, if you were the NRA wouldn't you want to block any research on gun violence? It their job to make sure no muddle headed liberal starts messing with the inalienable right to have as many guns and types of guns (and ammo) as we want.

Does anybody here believe EVERY person who owns a gun(legally)is not a threat?Remeber this their criminals who NEVER been arrested or caught yet so legally they can pass a background check and now be able to own a fire arm,but of course in america more guns is the answer.

They probably think the 2nd Amendment is sacrosanct and one shouldn't "go there".

As if the founding fathers could have foreseen semi-automatic and assault weapons...

Could say the same about the 1st Amendment and the development of TV and online media. The technology is irrelevant.

Well, yeah. Unless we end up developing Minority Report-type technology, a background check wouldn't pick that up.

I refer you back to my previous post. The NRA is a corporate lobby for the gun industry, so of course they're going to lobby for fewer gun ownership restrictions.

Some people are potential threats with or without weapons.

Because of this, one cannot logically assume that no people with weapons are threats because we don't know the intersection of those two groups.

No system is perfect, but I would rather have some sort of background checking in place than none.
