I was comparing this airport to Chicago O'Hare. ATL airport has many terminals, but in order to get to the terminals, everyone must go through the single security checkpoint zones. Where in O'hare, every terminal has their own security check points. However, O'hare often reduce their security lanes from 7 to 2. Sometimes they will take a bunch of people from the regular security check point and walk us over to the priority checkpoint where there weren't anyone.

The trick here is, buy TSA pre-checked pass...it's a money maker but it will be worth it.

It's only bad during "rush hour", or when all the international flights are meant to take off. Other times the lines are reasonable.

Pre-check would be much more valuable if they stopped giving it away for free.

They announced they were no longer doing this and yet it continues!

Yeah, putting it on some rando's ticket who never flies and doesn't understand precheck procedures just wastes time.

Nonetheless, precheck is immensely valuable. I rarely wait more than 10 minutes at ATL, even when the lines are backed up through the atrium.

Looks like this issue may not be limited to Atlanta. The New York Times reports that the problem is nationwide.

There's a video that is going viral about long-ass security lines at Chicago Midway:

Last Friday evening the lines were indeed atrocious, snaking through the atrium, and there were many security lines closed in the main checkpoint.

The issue is, once again, NOT the workers themselves, and during all but peak times it is certainly not the south checkpoint closure either. The issue is persistent understaffing of the Atlanta checkpoints on the part of the TSA.
Looks like a job opportunities for anyone on CD looking. It's MARTA accessible as well.

I flew with my family the week before Christmas, and the lines were out into the Atrium. When we got up front, I think only 4-6 lanes were open. It's insane.

Just flew out of O'Hare the other day and the TSA lines were OD long there as well. This isn't an issue unique to Hartsfield. I've heard Midway is worse than O'Hare or Hartsfield.

You can also go thru TSA at the International terminal even if you're flying domestic. Just go thru the checkpoint and then go to your correct terminal from F. If TSA says anything (which they usually don't) just tell them you're leaving from E and if your boarding pass doesn't reflect that tell them it was changed after you printed it out. Trust me there not going make a big fuss about it. I fly out quite a bit and I do it all the time to avoid the lines, even before all this foolishness

So apparently the GM of Atlanta Airport was fired. Long lines aren't 100% to blame. What do ya'll think are some of the other reasons? Btw...He was fired by Mayor Kasim Reed.
