Basically I'm working with Quicken on a house loan but they told me I would be better paying off my car first before getting a home which is fine and should only take 6-10 months but when I said something about renting they said it wouldn't be smart to put another inquiry on my report. Is it possible to get a short term (up to a year) place without a credit check anywhere? I'm 25, my credit score is 645, and my monthly income is 4320. Can anyone help me? I'm desperate and currently staying at the Hyatt.

You will be better off renting a house or townhome thru a private landlord versus apartment complex. Once you've found your place (try HotPads.com), contact the landlord directly to explain your situation. Your monthly income will definitely work in your favor. Most landlords would approve your rental application, as long as you do not have any foreclosures, repos, or violent crimes. And many landlords are open to a month-to-month agreement.

The landlord might still require a credit check (I've never met one who will not do a credit check), but it should not negatively impact you in 6-10 months. Just be sure to only fill out the rental application after you have explained your situation so that you know they'll be OK with everything ahead of time. This will mean you'll just have one inquiry for one application versus several. It would also be good to ask if your landlord works thru a service that reports your payments to the credit bureaus.

If you absolutely cannot have another inquiry on your report, look into subletting. You can try to find someone who needs a roommate or who has a room or basement apt available. I believe that people can post those types of rentals on hotpads.com as well, but there's also Craiglist (just be very careful).

Last resort would be living in an extended stay for the 6-10 months it takes to pay off your car loan. It's honestly not the worst thing in life. I did it as an adult teenager for a brief time while I was in school.
