There are a lot of gradations between (a) insisting on a funeral home atmosphere where you can hear a pin drop and (b) having recorded techno bass booming all over a 250 acre park and the neighborhoods nearby.

My apologies, possibly the sounds of dueling banjos may have been more to your liking?

I seriously doubt the music can be heard booming over the entire 250 acres of the park, sounds a little dramatic. Now if the complaints came from a homeowner living on the outskirts of the park, I can understand being pissed. However if you are just visiting the public park just like everybody else, then if the music is annoying you then maybe go to another park.

It was not BOOMING across the whole park. Music Midtown with its huge stages does not BOOM across the whole park.

This event or something similar happens maybe 5 or 6 Sundays a year.

I'm not a Jazz fan, maybe I should call 911 when the Jazz fest is on?

I've got to agree.

If you live by Piedmont Park, you live in the city, and every once in a while, that means there's going to be city-type noise and activity. Now, if it's going on at 1am on Sunday, then I'd say complain. But I doubt that's the scenario here.

You might as well move near Lenox mall and complain that every 4th of July there are thunderous booms in the sky. Can't they tone down the fireworks a little? People are actually trying to live here!

Well, if the original post, quoting the permit as not allowing music that is audible more than 200' away, then I'd say that's an issue and that the proper channels are not followed. If they have a different permit that allows the louder music, then it's just a general annoyance of having to listen to house music.

I'm all for lively scenes, and music, and all that, but if it's true that you can hear the music from this little pow-wow in the Botanical Gardens, that is over 1,00 feet away. If it's true that it can be heard at Park Tavern, that's over 2,000 feet away.

That's the worst part of it. The only thing worse than having to listen to techno/house/bass/whateverthehelltheycallitthesedays, is having to hear just the never-ending, incessant, thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump.

Okay, then how do you feel about me bringing my boombox out there and playing my Hank, Jr.'s Greatest Hits CD all afternoon?

The thing is, how do we even know these people are city taxpayers? They could be driving in from some other jurisdiction and setting up shop.

And there's a big difference between some city-type noise every once in a while and somebody blasting techno bass all over the park all day Sunday and into the night.

Seriously. I had this problem in my college dorm. Someone had a subwoofer somewhere and all I heard were the beats.

They are from Atlanta

It was Soulful House

The event also included DJ workshops for children, was family friendly. Stacks of folks having picnics and grilling. Lets please stop bandwagon jumping making out it was something that it was not.
