A major golf center proposed just miles from the new Atlanta Braves stadium is expected bring more entertainment to Cobb County.

AllStar Golf, a proposed $27 million driving range facility, would be built on the Legacy Golf Course on Windy Hill Road between Atlanta Road SE and Cobb Parkway in Smyrna.

The golf and entertainment center would be managed by the Atlanta-based Mosaic Clubs and Resorts, which also manages 17 other facilities in the Southeast.

Is this brand on par with Top Golf? Better? Worse?

I think the plan is to be on par but from what I can tell they are a traditional Golf Course Management Company and this is their first venture into this type of property.

Man, if this was in the CoA we'd be doing backflips.

This makes a ton of sense.

I always wondered by Fox Creek and Legacy golf courses were right beside each other on Windy Hill.

Marginal golfers like me would rather hit a bucket of balls for an hour than spend 5 hours and 5x the $$ playing 18.

My uncle, OTOH, travels to Scotland to play XYZ course. He would think Top Golf is for the Happy Gilmore crowd.

I took my first set of golf lessons at Fox Creek. There were differences between Fox Creek and Legacy, but nothing that would really force me to choose one over the other. I used to hit the ranges at both courses on lunch breaks when I worked off of Windy Hill. It really came down to who had less traffic that day.

I know that both courses would email like crazy with deals, so I am not surprised at this move. I suppose the people that just want to play a round or two at an executive course could just stick to Fox Creek after AllStar Golf is built at Legacy. Like you, I tend to just hit ranges since I rarely even have time to get in 9 holes, much less 18.

I've been to TopGolf, but I have no idea whether AllStar Golf is better or worse. If anything, it should at least somewhat alleviate some of the traffic at the TopGolf locations. TopGolf will still maintain its popularity, but it is always good to have another option.

They originally wanted to franchise Top Golf, but that did not pan out. This was the original intent when Mosaic took over course management in March, to make it an entertainment facility.

There is talk of making Legacy a nine hole course, allowing more land for the range. The business plan still shows 18 holes. They're already spending a decent amount on refurbishing some of the holes.

To be fair, there's been substantial turnover at these courses since Mosaic took over. My understanding is that they may not fully grasp the clientele that attends Legacy/Fox. This new facility is aimed at millenials with money. Why not go to the existing Top Golf locations? There is not likely enough demand in the area. Banking on the halo affect from SunTrust park seems short-sighted.
