85 during the day and 80 at night. Properly sized ceiling fans make a huge distance.

76 in summer. 70 in the winter. Ceiling fans really help.

I'm in a condo building with a climate controlled hall way, so even if I do not run the AC at all (sometimes I won't run it for weeks/months even in the summer), it still never gets above 77 or 78. It generally does not get above 74 or 75 with nothing running in non-summer months. I can turn it on for just a few minutes and it'll bring the temperature down a few degrees super quick. As you can imagine, my bill is super low, usually never above 60 in the summer, and even lower in the winter.

At my old place I used to regularly set it as low as 69-70, but in my new place I never go below 72, and that's at night. More like 75-78 in the daytime. You can't exactly compare houses and thermostats against each other, because how comfortable you feel at a given temperature depends a lot on the way the house is designed, and where the thermostats are located. The thermostat setting that was comfortable at my old house would leave me shivering in this one.

I recall receiving info in my Georgia Power bill that recommended keeping your thermostat set at 78 all the time in the summer months for energy efficiency (and for a lower bill).

Our upstairs A/C was busted for about 10 days before I could convince my husband that we had no choice but to write the check and fix it. There were nights when it was 90 degrees upstairs at 9:00 PM. Positively miserable. We bought a portable unit from Home Depot to cool down our bedroom while we were waiting for six days (!!!!) for the A/C guy to order and receive the needed part. That thing kicked butt. I was actually cold in the mornings when I woke up.

I keep mine at 72 or 74 in the summer, and around 70 in the winter. Two story 4BR house with an under-the-house garage and half basement, but with lots of tree cover.

Less clothes & more ceiling fans = comfort

A whole house fan can really help during the nighttime hours, also. I only use it when the A/C dies, tho.

I'm surprised so many people set their A/C to the low 70s. No thanks to that electricity bill!
