Traveling I-75 North in northern Marietta, as you approach Canton Hwy, you get a sign that tells you the I-575 IS 1-3/4ths mile away. However this exit actually seems to come fairly quickly so I decided to look at my odometer, and my GPS and found that from that sign the exit is really not even a full mile away. Aproximately 3/4ths of a mile. Anyone ever noticed this?

Ive noticed the most of the interstate signs are way to close to the exit, it causes massive problems as people are swerving all of a sudden getting in and out of lanes, you see this around the delk road exit all the time. It looks like with the new construction they are finally moving them further out.

The old signs had the same issue. I'd contact GDOT.

Why do you need 4 Camaros? That just sounds excessive.

I actually own 2 of them.
A 99 Z28 with 200k on the clock and still runs and looks brand new and a 2015 V6 I bought for commuting. I intend to purchase a 2017 Camaro after I got my 2015 squared away.

I did awhile back... This really irritated me...

Subject Area: Suggest a Project or Quick Fix
Your Comments: LOCATION: I-75 Northbound at GA-5 Interchange, Marietta GA

PROBLEM:
Regarding the exit for I-575.
The signage indicates that the exit is 1 3/4 mile away from the exit, in truth it is barely even 1 mile away. I have confirmed this with multiple GPS tools, and my odometer and all read that the distance is right at 1 mile. The reason this is an issue is most major interchanges in GA are typically given approximately 2 miles notice as you approach them and misleads drivers to believe they have more time to merge than they really do thus potentially causing weaving issues and drivers banking to the right from the far left lanes.

PROPOSED FIX:
Change the sign to read that the exit is only 1 mile away
Add an additional sign further south of the interchange advising where the exit is approximately 2 miles away.

Here's their response...

Thank you for contacting YOUR Georgia Department of Transportation. The signs are as per plans. That being said; the first sign indicating 575 is at MP 266.8 and the first exit only (of which there are two) is at MP 267.9. The second is at MP 268.1 and one is committed to the exit and moving onto 575 at approximately MP 268.5. From the first indication of 575 to being on 575 is right at 1.7 miles. Also, it may depend on what the customer would consider the point commitment to an exit.

GDOT Customer Service Unit
If anyone would like to reinforce my argument about this interchange with DOT, maybe enough requests will get them to budge... I'd be grateful

I'd try emailing Kathy Zahul (District 7 Engineer) directly at kzahul@dot.ga.gov.

Where are you seeing this sign? When I pull up Google street view, this sign is 3/4 of a mile away:

It says 3/4 of a mile, and is about 3000' from the exit. This street view shot was taken in June of 2016. The shot from March 2016 shows a different sign (also says 3/4 mile), so the sign in the linked view is new. The old one appears to have been there for years.

There is a sign truss 1-3/4 miles from the 575 exit, right at the Canton Road exit, but there is no sign for 575 on it.

In fact, I do not see another sign for 575 on 75N.

So yeah...I'm curious where the sign is you are talking about.

On I-16 in Bulloch County heading eastbound toward Savannah, there's a sign that says SAVANNAH 40 or something to that effect. From that point, it is in fact only 32 miles to the TERMINUS of I-16 in downtown Savannah. I've never tried to figure out the logic to it, and just blamed it on sheer stupidity, ignorance or laziness in where the crew decided to erect the sign.

"Oh, this looks like a good spot!" Dig a hole. Done!

I assume you're talking about this sign, which says 37 miles, just after mile marker 133.

I couldn't find another sign up to 4 miles back from that to find one that says 40 miles. But anyway. Yes, I am a map geek, so this is actually entertaining.

But, that being said, the city hall (where I believe they measure sign distances from), is just over 34 driving miles from the 37 mile sign. Yeah...weird.
