The attorney for Miguel Southwell, the recently terminated airport manger, recently sent a letter to the mayor declaring their intention to sue the city. The letter accuses The Mayorâ„¢ of interfering with the bidding process for lucrative contracts for concessions and construction at the airport, among other things.

Former airport GM accuses mayor of meddling in airport contracts | WSB-TV

The Mayorâ„¢ has fired back today saying that Mr Southwell is lucky that he does not release the true reason he was let go. Apparently, he is being generous and keeping it under wraps so it won't ruin his career.

Mayor Reed on fired airport GM:

So, Miguel places some serious accusations against Reed, Reed fires back and threatens Miguel with releasing private information. This has the making of a political drama show. Who has the most to lose right now? Looking at Mr Southwell, he's 58, seems accomplished, relatively close to retirement age. Reed...

I generally like Reed but I don't care who it is, corruption is corruption. Reed's reaction doesn't come across as very innocent. This isn't the first time the city has been accused of meddling in the bidding process. Interested to see where this goes.

Get out popcorn this should be good. I certainly hope Kasim wasn't favoring his friends for contracts. I would suspect that it's either true or slander.

Southwell could very well retire considering how long he has been working in the aviation and public sector both for the cities of Atlanta and Miami. Also word is that Southwell didn't attend a requested meeting with the COO of the City when asked but there is likely more to that story...

I can imagine Southwell could get stacks of cash in support from a certain someone who has had issue with contracts at the airport. Maybe they can break out the old trucks to circle city hall and use "most visible object in the Southeast" to engage the public.

Looks like former airport GM Southwell and the Mayor have come to terms. I would love to find out what happened behind the scenes. I can't be sure, but I'm imagining Reed at his most aggressive. So much is riding on the line right now for his career, no way he would let his minor dealings in long standing "business practices" mess that up. Maybe I am reading between the lines too much, but his line is telling:

Quote:
“Mr. Southwell has recognized that neither the Mayor nor any other city official engaged in any improper activity…. they both now believe that their differences were more a matter of style than substance.”
