My husband and I are looking to relocate to Atlanta in the next few months. We don't know enough about the area to know where the best places to live, work and so forth. We have started our job search but our biggest concern is safety where we live and finding a quality daycare for our three year old son. Can anyone suggest nice areas to live? We aren't looking for anything big for starters. We probably looking to rent a two bedroom apartment which is close to the city but in a nice area. We dont prefer to live where we have to take long commutes. Any suggestions on how we should go about looking for jobs at such a distance? It's hard to determine if we should look for places to live first or a job? Then, the issue is finding a daycare within our daily commute for our son as well. I hope this move won't be hard as I think. I'm just ready to get down there and start learning my way around. Any newcomers to the area can suggest how they went about learning the area. Is it easier to depend on public transportation? How is parking for jobs in the city? I know by working downtown in Raleigh, parking is an issue. You either pay expensive parking to parking several blocks away from your job in a parking deck or get to work way too early to find a street park. Another concern is how did you go about having interviews for your job if you moved from a distance? Are the companies willing to do phone interviews? Also, if anyone has any suggestions on any good employers in Atlanta, feel free to provide that info. My husband has experience in the hotel industry and currently driving trucks for a building supply company. I have a B.S. degree in Business Administration. I have worked in the Community College System and currently working for NC-DMV dealing with insurance. So, I'm open to looking for jobs with the government, insurance companies or any related field. I know I have asked way too many questions in this post but it seems to overwelming to be able to move at such a distance. Thanks for any input you may have.
