You can convert freeway lanes to HOT all day, but if that system can't be accessed by cars/buses from Collier without driving to Howell Mill first, then that does you no good.

They can help but you still need special legislation.

There are a lot of places where big impact fees were generated due to heavy development but the money went elsewhere.

Where did HOT Lanes get mentioned in this?

I'm just saying, I'm heavily in favor of GDOT's goal to convert the existing HOV lane on ITP 75 into a HOT managed lane which could be used as a transit busway. But I'm also in favor of collector-distributor lanes alongside the freeway system, for as much of the metro as possible. So that people have the option to merge in and out of the general freeway lanes only as needed, which then become like an "express", but if they are only going 1-2 exits then they can stay in the auxiliary lanes, which then become like a local road, which relieves other arterial roads.

I'm also of course in favor of wildly ambitious transit-only projects (like a BRT tunnel or something), but you and I both know that's not going to happen.

HOT lanes with express bus service between Arts Center and Cumberland, via Atlantic Station, Northside Dr HOT ramps and Akers Mill HOT ramps is ideal.

Yeah. Either that, or build the 15th St bridge with HOT ramps as GDOT has planned, and that would be an even more direct express link between Arts Center and Cumberland.

I haven't heard anything about the 15th st HOV bridge/exit in years. Anyone know if they have made any moves in this regard? This "small" addition will really add a lot of value to the HOV system

The connector doesn't have any C/D lanes as far as I can tell. At least not down toward I 20 where the bottleneck is. Not to mention the connector is handling 75 and 85 traffic (and really traffic for the 400 corridor as well). A well done C/D system keeps the majority of merging and exiting (weaving) off the mainlines. I've seen plenty of times in the afternoon (before 75 gets really backed up) and traffic exiting for Howell Mill and Northside back up onto 75.

I like 85's C/D lanes from 316 north to Old Peachtree. Plenty of times I've taken 316 WB to the C/D lanes just to get off at Duluth Hwy or Sugarloaf and vice versa. Also keeps me off of Sugarloaf between 316 and 85. That stretch also doesn't have the traffic ills of elsewhere on 85. South of 316 is a mess and north of the C/D lanes you go from ~6/7 lanes (with the C/D) plus the HOT down to 2 lanes for 985 and 2 lanes for 85 at the MOG. All in about 5 miles and that's been backing up like crazy for the afternoon.

Remove some general traffic lanes and convert to CD lanes, but no more wider freeways.
