Controversial homeless shelter wins court ruling | Bill Rankin's Legal Brief

Georgia supremes ruled against the dispossessory action, so the operators of the shelter can't be evicted. They also ruled against the summary judgment, so this is going to a jury trial, which will also see its share of appeals.

Looks like these guys aren't going anywhere anytime soon, barring an out of court settlement.

Exactly.

For all these legal fees, couldn't they have just paid the darn rent?

Even if Legal Aid or something is paying them, they still have to cover the court costs, right?

I also think it's hilarious that the court had to find that Chick-fil-A couldn't be forced to pay a pledged amount. Did they really try to argue that a charitable donation is a contract? These guys are grasping at straws. But the strategy seems to be working for them.

I don't get how you can even contest a foreclosure, but more power to them for figuring it out, I guess.

The Beatys are scumbags that care more about inflating their ego than actually helping the homeless.

Not even surprised anymore. I think Atlanta is cursed with it for good. Good luck ever truly connecting Midtown with Downtown with that still there. No one wants to live or work around that mess.

Nothing lasts forever, but usually long enough to outlive us all.

And a mess it is. After leaving Gilbert's on 10th a little after midnight Saturday, I took Juniper/Courtland to head to a club on Auburn Ave. You could see all the trash bags everywhere, and it didn't look like an overall area to be walking in. I don't recall seeing any ppl standing or hanging around.

OK, so, where exactly are all these people going to go if the Pine Street shelter finally closes?

And please don't say "get a job," because it is not that simple.
