From much of the Usual Suspects(TM) around here, there has never been such thing as a good pedestrian bridge. Every. Single. One. has been looked down on by the same group no matter how much benefit they would bring.

Not the case at all. Pedestrian bridges are great around the Beltline, within college campuses, over the expressways, along PATH trails, lots of places.

In the particular cases of Northside Drive and Moreland Avenue, yes, my position is logically consistent; what's good for the westside is good for my side of town. For the price of the two bridges that have been "concepted," we could improve the crosswalks -- curb ramps, refuge islands, better lighting, and better sidewalks leading up to the intersections -- along many many blocks, rather than just one spot.

Peachtree City is famous for their numerous pedestrian / cycling / golf cart bridges (and tunnels). In Fayetteville, similar bridges are going up across Veterans Parkway to link Pinewood Studios to the Pinewood Forrest mega village across the street, and across Hwy 54 in front of Piedmont Fayette Hospital to connect the medical offices and retail / restaurants on the south side of the highway to the main hospital campus on the north (which is massive BTW).

Less expensive route of at-grade improvements should be sought after first as this bridge will costs tens of millions, that instead could be spent city wide for bicycle lanes or trail network. PED bridges are a sign of giving up on making a street a 'complete street's and instead relocating it to a car sewer.

The Braves Bridge is coming along nicely. Should do a good job of linking the stadium to other parts of the area.

I like both the existing ped bridge over 41 in Cumberland, and the new one under construction over 285.

I like the MARTA bridge over 400 at Buckhead station.

I like the ped bridge in downtown Nashville over the Cumberland river.

For the most part though, in the core areas of the cities I prefer they make it safe to cross the road, by whatever measures that entails.

Not me.

I say full right of way all the time for every mode. Bridges everywhere and no stop lights, people and cars shouldn't really be interacting anyway.

But I'm impatient. I don't like waiting for red lights or crosswalks. There isn't a pedestrian bridge or graded intersection that eliminates the need for a traffic signal that I would be against. I think we should aim for as few stops as possible, whether you are walking, driving, riding, or teleporting.

I've seen good and bad (and extremes of both). The siting has as much to with it as the bridge itself.

I don't really have a problem crossing there. With Freedom Parkway dead-ending, you don't have the left turns that that makes 4 way intersections difficult. Ponce is a lot harder to cross than Moreland.

So I think there are better places for pedestrian bridges, but I don't really have a problem with one here. I just don't like this particular design. There's enough concrete around without flooding the area with it.

Maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I do really like this bridge over Peachtree Dunwoody in Sandy Springs:

But, you know, that's the suburbs. I guess I feel like in-town Atlanta proper should not look like this.
