Hey, Atlanta! I love you on FX. I have a work trip to Atlanta next week -- first time I've ever been. Although it is a work trip, I may have one or two evenings and maybe even a whole afternoon free. Any must see's or eats?

On the restaurant side, nothing too extravagant, given that I'm expensing meals. Especially interested in restaurants that focus on cuisine and authenticity, rather than fads, flashy concepts, decor or being part of a 'scene'. Would need to get in and out for under $40/head. Not a heavy drinker, so no need to calculate drinks or focus on beverage-centric spots.

Will be staying near Georgia Tech.

I'm lacking on much specific experience, but this site is a good starting point:

The most convenient areas to check are Midtown, the Westside, Buckhead and Decatur (a little farther afield, but accessible by train).

If you're there, if you're willing to walk you could go to Piedmont Park and then on the Beltline if you want an even longer walk, or you could Uber to Ponce City Market and walk the Beltline back and go to Piedmont and back up. It's longish, but doable for an afternoon.

For the area more local/authentic cuisine, I'd go to South City Kitchen, southern, and solid. It's very walkable. You could go to JCT on the Westside for chicken/southern too. Since you're not going to have too much time, southern food is probably the thing you should do.

Two urban licks is very good and affordable. Great location literally on the beltline.

Cooks and Soldiers is also a really great choice and it's tapas style so you can try quite a bit if you share at $40/head.

The Optimist is great if you prefer seafood. Great quality and reasonable prices.
