I'm looking to move to Atlanta. I looked up reviews of apartment buildings in Atlanta like the Midtown area and all the apartment buildings I look up, have reviews of cockroach infestations, bad management and break ins. Clearly GA apartment buildings are infested with cockroaches. Are condos the same story? What about if I rented a room in someone's house? Would I have to deal with roaches (or even snakes) in the house? Do you know of apartment buildings or condos in Atlanta that don't have a roach problem and DO have actual good reviews? All of them I look up have bad reviews.

I want to live in the city because I want to go to the events and the restaurants etc. I want to be where the action is. I just don't want to deal with a roach infested, badly managed apartment. Clearly all the reasonably priced places are all infested with roaches and crime. Are there condos or apartments with rare roach appearances but also below $1K/mo? These reviews are concerning me.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most of the people who post of "roach infestations" saw a single roach and went crazy. It's the south. Roaches exist and almost certainly will make appearances. Apartment reviews always bring out far more complaints than they do compliments.

LOL maybe if you upped your budget you can find something nice. $1000 isnt gonna take you far for what you want, its gonna get you a hole. Maybe look at a cheaper city. Atlanta is just gonna keep going up in price.

It's very unlikely that the apartments are actually infested with roaches, as in they are breeding in the walls. They probably just don't have great pest control and roaches come in from outside. Even with the very best pest control, you're gonna see a roach every once in a while in the south.

But roaches aside, you're not going to get anything even remotely decent for your price range in the city. Roaches would be the least of your problems at under $1k/month. Kick it up, get a roommate, or look in the suburbs.

Yes, there are snakes under all of our beds. Take great care getting up in the middle of the night.

Where do you recommend I live outside of Atlanta that would be easy and a short amount of time to take transportation into Atlanta? And a place that doesn't have a lot of crime.

Where you live will depend on where in the Atlanta metro area your job will be located.

In Atlanta, jobs are not concentrated in one particular area but are spread out all over the metropolitan area/region....A metro area/region that stretches out over as many as 30-40 counties in North Georgia.

With the traffic in the Atlanta metro area being so extremely heavy during peak hours, many people often (out of necessity) have to make an effort to live relatively close near where they work.

...Which is why it will be so important for you to first find out and know where you will be working....So that you will know where to look for housing so that you don't end up with a commute to and from work that might be much longer (time and/or distance-wise) than you may like or want it to be.

Do you yet know where (what district/town) in metro Atlanta you will be commuting to and from for work on a daily basis?

Yeah, if they're the big'ens, then they're just coming in from outside. A cup & piece of paper / vacuum cleaner will take care of them, as they're really not that harmful.

If it's the little'ens, then that might be a different story. The real tell-tale is if you find tiny pieces of black 'dirt' behind / under stuff. That's the German (smaller) Cockroach droppings, and are a sign that they're living with the place. Otherwise, chances are the place isn't any more infested than if a Cicada wandered in.

What a ridiculous question to ask. This a modern, major Metropolitan area - not some Third World settlement in the middle of a swamp...
