I'd second cmtiger's suggestion of Decatur city. It has a strong sense of community, kids walking to school, etc. It won't be long before you're hanging out on the square, realizing that you know a good proportion of the families walking by! Great schools, small-town feeling, lots of parks, but pretty close to everything in the city.

Is your husband going to be flying for his travel? Decatur also has a MARTA stop downtown, so he can just take the train directly to the airport terminal and avoid the hassle of driving and parking. I don't think we've driven to the airport in four years.

I live and work in the Suwanee area. It was just rated one of the top ten places to live by money magazine. It has a great community feel, parks and walking/biking trails. The schools are also excellent.

I could help you find a wonderful home here in your price range.

Default Airport considerations

Hi, I'm from the northeast as well (NJ/Philly area originally). Welcome to Atlanta! I've been here since 2000.

Sorry there are so many strange replies here. Basically, you want a nice home in a safe neighborhood with good schools that's not too far from the airport. I travel a lot also, and I'm guessing your husband probably wants to see his family for as much of the weekend as possible (instead of driving for 2 hours from the airport in traffic to get home). So skip far-away places like Suwanee, Alpharetta.

ATL airport is southwest of the city. One person recommended Peachtree City, which is a good option near the airport; many pilots live near there or in Fayetteville. Other than those, you'll probably choose someplace nw, n, or east of the city, which many of . NW - places like Marrietta, Powder Springs, Vinings (East Cobb Cty). N - Roswell (a bit far), Dunwoody, Sandy Springs. NE - No further than Duluth (even that is a bit far). E - places like Decatur and others people mentioned are nice.

There are basically 2 ways to the airport - 285 (the perimeter around Atlanta) or 75/85 south. If you live inside the perimeter he'll probably go 85/75 south, at the perimeter and you can choose either 75/85 or 285 depending on traffic.

Good luck with your move!
