I'm moving in temporarily with a friend who lives in East Point, specifically the Jefferson Park area just off 166 and Sylvan Road. I'm pretty familiar with Atlanta (lived in Midtown for the past year) but not East Point at all. I know I probably won't spend much time actually in and around East Point except for at the house since I work very long hours. But can you please tell me what to expect from the area? Just how brutal is the commute into Midtown? What to look out for in the area as far as safety? Thanks.

You won't be that far from midtown. If I-75 is too much for you there is another option, Northside Dr. Worked in midtown for 28 years. I always left before morning traffic started and it was a breeze. Then only evening rush to contend with.

Thank you, that makes me feel better. Hopefully I'll be able to beat the morning rush too since my days start pretty early as well.

Personally I'd take Northside. A, you get better scenery. B., if there's a hangup somewhere you've got plenty of alternatives.

We had some friends who lived in Jefferson park and they loved it.

It's not a choice at this point. I am moving in with a friend, because the living situation is perfect. Just wondering what I'm getting into especially in regards to safety as a single woman.

The train is also another great option commuting in to Midtown. It's about a 30 minute trip from East Point to Arts Center.

As for East Point itself, Jefferson Park and Frog Hollow (across the tracks near city hall) are the city's two best neighborhoods. For most part it's pretty quiet there, with only the noise from the high school on Friday nights during football season to disturb it.

Downtown proper has a few quaint shops and restaurants, but it's been on the cusp of booming for 30 years now. Downtown College Park has a lot more going. However, as others have stated, East Point is very close to everything intown. In fact, Downtown East Point is closer to Downtown/Midtown than Decatur is. Getting to any where intown is a piece of cake.
