I agree with this to a degree because that is how I do, but some people just want to walk somewhere and stumble into anything as long as there are drinks because it is all the same to them. I will research the kind of stuff I want to do at night anywhere I visit.

I'd like to avoid broish stuff like that other poster shared with those generic looking Chicago bars. Yuck.

There's nothing wrong with that, and as I stated yesterday, there are numerous options for doing this near all the hotels downtown. So, they're covered. Seems like some on here, and whoever this Kempner fool is, want the hotel district and the nightlife district to be in the same spot even though you'd be hard pressed to find that in any city, and for good reason.

Sounds like many people here have zero experience finding out where to go in a new city. The trick is to ask around before and during your trip: all the venues won't necessarily be right outside your hotel. I went to LA for the first time as an adult recently, and it was exactly the same, but a few panhandlers and dark streets didn't make me conclude that LA was dead after dark. Same for many large cities overseas, just do some research and maybe you won't feel skitish because you saw a few closed bars or a panhandler in a city of 6 million people. Hilarious!

I stayed in DTLA in December, and we enjoyed a ton of bars and restaurants there. Source: a local newspaper and 10 minutes of reading.

Why is there a limit on upvotes?

please share, I yelped and walked the entire DTLA and found nothing. DTLA is a virtual wasteland when it comes to food/drink. There's a couple places around LA Live and some eclectic hole in the walls in little Tokyo, but other than that, forget about it.

We ate at Baco Mercat, and stopped in around 6 bars along 5th, 6th, and Main. There were plenty of people out, and the lines are long at a few places. The farthest we went from town was the Colisseum because we found plenty of places to eat and drink in DTLA.

You mean like 90% of the major metros in the US? The nerve, right? It's simple, it's crime ridden. I'm down there for business routinely after hours and it's a ghetto. Pure and simple....it's just dangerous. Always was, always will be.....

Sadly, that was the downfall of Underground, IMO. I think Underground had the makings of "the place to go" in Atlanta, but then it just became a place for thugs to hang out and cause trouble.
