As the title suggests, we received as call from someone who participated in our child's pre-first observation, sharing some positive things that happened during the session and saying they thought our child might be a great fit/hoped we liked the school. They also offered to be available for questions during the application process. I am curious whether this is commonplace, or has any meaning besides wanting to create a connection *in case* our child is admitted.

Since it seems the file review portion of application season is just kicking off, certainly the schools can't know anything about the exact kids they will admit... We have zero ties to this particular school, but do love it (and love feeling like we aren't just a number there). Just wondering if it is standard, or I should read anything into it (I am guessing not, but have searched these boards extensively and come up empty on this type of outreach).

Given that you said "pre-first" instead of "kindergarten," I'm going to venture a guess that you are discussing Pace or Westminster. I've never heard anyone say that that happened to them, but we never applied to either of those schools. Don't read too much into it either way.

Well, OP, this is a neutral to good sign, no way to tell which, and nothing to do but sit and wait. Everything will work out fine. . .

CMMom, You're probably right although Christ the King also has a year called pre-first.

I understand that for Pace, this call is provided to the children who do very well on the observation (without taking into consideration any other aspects of the application or pool of applicants). I do know at lest one child who received tis call last year and was ultimatley waitlisted.

If it's Pace that you're talking about, I'm pretty sure most (if not all) PreFirst applicants receive a call after the observation. I have spoken to a number of other parents who attended the same observation day and we all received calls.

Thanks all. Yes, talking about Pace. Seems phone calls are a fairly recent phenomenon, as a good friend with first and third graders there said it didn't happen to anyone she knew when her kids were going through process. We won't read anything into it and will wait (anxiously) until decisions arrive in April...
