Who is paying for the new freeways?

As I recall that storm was centered in Virginia Highland, Candler Park and other nearby hoods that felt like they were being engulfed by teardowns of the older homes and huge new McMansions. I know VH in particular was up in arms about it.

It's more of a north/south thing than it is just Buckhead. Norwood has strong support in areas like Midtown, Grant Park, East Atlanta, etc.

While she clearly lost heavily to Reed on the southside, she still pulled a significant number votes in many precincts, even in a one-on-one race.

Mary is a very hard worker who's been fighting for the little guy in Atlanta for a long time. I would not write off her support city wide.

What's Norwood's stance on public transportation, because all I'm finding on her website is talk of "traffic congestion" and signal prioritization. She helped shut down bike lanes on Peachtree St. so I'm not optimistic she has any progressive ideas about transit.

Well, Norwood supported the MARTA sales tax increase, the infrastructure bond, and the city's TSPLOST. She also supported the Beltline, the paths and the bike stuff except for putting bike lanes on Peachtree through Buckhead.

Other than that I don't know.

I believe that's still an issue with some of the folks up in Buckhead. You've got all those 40 and 50 year old types who think it's easier to drive to work than to simply hop on their bikes and pedal off to wherever they're going and grab a shower at the office. Apparently they fail to realize that with a decent basket they could also do the family grocery shopping on the way home.

In my opinion it will be a cold day before Buckhead (at least on Peachtree) becomes Amsterdam.

It's not like they were going to close Peachtree to cars. The road would actually have flowed better than it did before. Those that wanted to drive still could.

Even if you don't personally bike, others still deserve a safe option to bike down the street

Well, they've got a unique situation with Peachtree in that neck of the woods. In my opinion they could definitely use a center turn lane, however.

Hopefully the GDOT will get all that straightened out.
