I don't think that this (latest) transportation emergency will necessarily cause anymore people to move to Northwest metro Atlanta than the robust amount of people that were already going to move there.

And frankly, Northwest metro Atlanta (including Cobb, Cherokee, Paulding and Bartow counties) doesn't really need anything like this to give it an advantage in attracting extra numbers of people and newcomers to the area because Northwest metro Atlanta already does extremely well attracting large numbers of newcomers in its own right.

Northwest metro cities like Smyrna, Vinings, Marietta, Kennesaw, Woodstock, Canton, etc, have no problem attracting droves of newcomers to their areas.

If anything, instead of diverting newcomers to Northwest metro Atlanta who might have otherwise moved to Northeast metro Atlanta, what this major transportation emergency might do is to (like multiple other posters have alluded to) effect a dramatic (off-the-charts) increase in transit usage in Northeast metro Atlanta....Particularly on the MARTA Red and Gold heavy rail lines and likely on the regional commuter lines (GRTA Xpress lines) that feed into and out of them.

Geesh, as if Atlanta didn't have enough traffic problems. I remember when the I-35 bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis collapsed years ago. Took a while to get everything back up and running. It was a pain for commuters, but of course everyone knew what to expect and dealt with it.

Good luck with that. This will only make traffic worse around the 75/285 interchange where as intown will overall see less cut-thru traffic and higher transit usage. Not sure how that convinces someone they need to move to the most anti-transit county with some of the worst traffic that will only be compounded by the coming Braves traffic.

2015-2016 Cobb had a 1.36% growth rate and the smaller City of Atlanta had a 1.83% growth rate.

Do you think Cobb will end up growing at a faster rate than CoA now? I don't.

FFS. What a narcissistic post. "Exodus to Cobb" "I-85 gone." Look at me, look at me! Not sure how anyone takes you seriously, Mike.

This will be repaired in a few months. How is that going to create an "exodus" to Cobb County?

This isn't a permanent thing, how can you predict an exodus from the 2nd largest county in GA?

I can't be the only person who thinks it's ludicrous to expect an "exodus to NW Atlanta" just because a bridge will be down for a few months. Like others said, this isn't permanent.

I think exodus is too strong of a term, but I definitely could see people looking for apartments staying away from I 85 North of Atlanta. I hope a smart grad student does some research and writes their thesis on any demographic shifts the bridge collapse caused. Could be an interesting look into how people deal with commuting.
