Regina King and John Ridley are teaming up to tell a real-life American crime.

"The Emmy-winning actress is attached to star in No Place Safe, a drama in development at FX chronicling the Atlanta Child Murders, our sister site Deadline reports.

The potential series, to be adapted by Empire scribe Wendy Calhoun, is based on the Kim Reid memoir of the same name. Reid at the time was a 13-year-old whose mother was one of the investigators in search of the killer of at least 28 African-American children, adolescents and young adults between 1979 and 1981; Atlanta native Wayne Williams was eventually convicted for two of the adult murders and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences. King will executive-produce alongside her sister, Reina King, as well as Calhoun and American Crime EPs Ridley and Michael McDonald..."

It's good to see they are not whitewashing this story.

It will be interesting to see how Wayne Williams is treated in this adaptation, and how much credence is given to the scapegoat theories.

Well, this could be interesting, but it's pretty grim and depressing subject matter.

I remember thinking the evidence was persuasive that Williams killed most of the victims but that a few didn't fit the pattern.

Not that Williams is innocent, but what if there was another killer operating as well?

I just remember at one point the prosecution's scenario and witness testimony would have had Williams tossing a grown man's body out of a car window going 60 mph on a bridge over the Chattahoochee.

Yeah, I remember something along those lines, too. As I recall, Williams himself is a fairly slight fellow.

Haven't there been enough shows on this already?

I'd rather everyone just stop talking about it.

Sounds like it is based more on Kim Reid's memoir of growing up in that era.

As for the murders themselves, I think they will continue to draw attention. If Williams in fact did it, it's one of the worst serial killer sprees in U.S. history.

By the way, I ran across this map that somebody put together showing where the victims were found. The ATL was one crazy place back in the old days.
