​MARTA to get jazzy in May (College Park, Decatur: 2013, college, live)

"Four MARTA rail stations will have live music every Monday in May from 3–5 p.m as part of MARTA Jazz Mondays.

MARTA said the series, which started in 2013, is designed to showcase local musical talent while increasing the presence of the arts throughout the MARTA system.

“We are making an intentional push to explore innovative ways to transform the transit experience by introducing new amenities and options that engage our customers in a new way and creative way,” MARTA CEO Keith T. Parker said in a statement. “This initiative is just one part of our larger arts program here at MARTA.”

Scheduled May performances:

Decatur Station
Ede Wright Trio - May 1

Lindbergh Station
Dave Ellington/Chris Burroughs - May 8

College Park Station
Omega Level - May 15

Midtown Station
Indie Revenge - May 22

I like that they're doing this, but why 3-5? Why not at a time that will allow 9-5ers to hear some music, and create a larger audience for the musicians? Maybe 4-6pm, or at lunchtime?

This concert series actually started this week. There were pictures of it on AJC, and virtually nobody was there to hear it. The musicians were playing to an empty subway station.

Totally agree about the "time"...should be changed to rush hour...more people would get a chance to enjoy the music. I might "tweet" this suggestion to Keith Parker...

Honestly, how many peak time commuters do you think would stop and listen instead of rushing to their trains?

I get what you're saying cq...however, there are many days (for me) when the trains at Lindbergh are so crowded, I have to wait for at least two or three to go by before I can get on. I just thought while I was waiting I would enjoy some good music

I'm sure most people would rush to their train, as normal, but some people would stop and listen, and that's a lot better than playing to nobody. And even if people didn't stop there'd still be a lot more people in the station at rush hour that get to hear the music than in a station at 3pm.

Anyone who has ever played music in public would agree with me on this.
