If the wealthier populace of the whole of Eagle's Landing were in the city of Stockbridge and had the majority vote, would it not gain some of what these folks are trying to do and enhance the image of the entire area, not just their little fiefdom? A city more than double the size of current Stockbridge and the largest incorporated city on the southside? Would that not bring in added panache?

This is how Windward works with Alpharetta. Alpharetta annexed Windward ages ago--instead of Windward later becoming its own city. Though, there was/is less of a contrast between Windward and Alpharetta proper than there is between Eagle's Landing and Stockbridge.

The major problem is that Stockbridge was a horrible neighbor. As Brother Marks mentioned above, cities should not be allowed to selectively annex commercial areas to the detriment of surrounding residential areas.

New cities should also not be allowed to annex parts of established cities. Making more cohesive borders should be improved upon but the process by which Eagle's Landing is being created should be a nonstarter.

Agreed. The way Stockbridge annexed was not good, but neither is taking land away from a city that has been in its boundaries for years. The precedence could be a huge domino effect of bad proportions.

Stockbridge's rampant annexation of commercial properties on the Clayton/ Henry County line around the I-75 interchange is ONE thing that killed the Lake Spivey cityhood movement a decade or so ago. The City of Stockbridge is DEFINITELY "city-light" as they don't even have their own police or fire departments, something that many local people REALLY want. Really Stockbridge itself caused this riff, and only NOW are they concerned about losing the goose that laid the golden egg. I personally hope, living in an adjacent unincorporated area, that the citizens of the Eagles Landing area vote to split and fullfill their own destiny free of Stockbridge's tyranny. After all, they are in Henry County, named after "Give me liberty or give me death" Patrick Henry!

I believe a city of Lake Spivey could exist but Eagles Landing just seems like an extension of Stockbridge. What is it even centered on? Isn’t it just an area of non historic single family homes? Why can’t they petition for annexation?
