If I work at the CDC (Clifton Rd), what area would be best for me to live - looking for a nice area w/newer homes under 350,000 and good schools - but not a llllooooonnggggg commute. Any recommendations?

Not sure about 'newer homes' and $350,000 but follow LaVista Rd toward Tucker. The subdivisions are older--50's, 60's mainly but new development is steady. Oak Grove Elementary/Lakeside High School area.

Also, Peachtree Corners is worth considering. Close to the DeKalb/Gwinnett county line. Older homes but also new development and good schools.

Yeah, I concur that the area around LaVista and Clairmont Rd (Oakgrove) and the area on Clairmont between Druid Hills and N Decatur Rd (Medlock Park) are good places to start.

I work at the Clifton campus, too (I'm a contractor). I live in a neighborhood called Candler Park (zip 30307). It's a good area - but hardly any new development. It's a historic neighborhood with older homes. But the schools are good and homes are steadily going up in value (even now). However, 350K probably won't get much more than a 2/1. 400K would get a smaller 3/2. It's a great neighborhood with lots of kids but not everyone likes the urbanness of it. If you're looking for a more traditional suburban-type neighborhood with a close commute then I would look in the aforementioned areas, then Tucker, and Dunwoody.

Welcome to CDC! What division and branch will you be in (if you don't mind me asking?)

We have a home for sale in East Atl-Grant park area, which is about 10-12 mins from the CDC. It's selling for under 300K, 2.5 yrs old, 3 level, hardwood floors thru-out, 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath in a townhome community. Would you be interested in looking at the property?

At 350M and under for a "new house" near the CDC, your options are nil...new construction in that area would conservatively start at 800M and go up quickly from there.
There are two neighborhoods in the CDC area where you can find homes in that price range...Briarcliff Heights (off Briarcliff between Clairmont and N. Druid Hills Rds.) and Woodland Hills (off LaVista Rd near the DeKalb/Fulton Co. line). The homes there are 2 and 3 BR ranches built in the early 50s. I know people in both neighborhoods who are very happy there, Briarcliff Heights in particular. BH has a very active neighborhood association, and is in the Sagamore Elementary school district (great school).
