Agreed. The film industry is good for Atlanta on the condition they get people to move into the CITY OF ATLANTA, and not the exburbs 100 miles away. And with the hellish traffic making it cost-ineffective to shoot movies scenes outside city limits, we should see this trend continue.

Now, if regional authorities would use the revenue increases for building new roads and freeways, Trafflanta might just be getting somewhere.

That's probably because the tax credits have been around for some time now and are showing no signs of going anywhere. Thus (1) the film industry can safely bank that they can continue to produce here for reduced production costs, and (2) it has established multiple studios across the state, notably the Pinewood Studios near Fayetteville and Third Rail Studios in Doraville.

Much of Baby Driver and several other films have been set in the City of Atlanta. But not all of them strictly want urban settings when filming on location, so they'll need to travel around for a bit.

I haven't been to Third Rail yet, and don't know anyone who has worked there, so I can't say much about that one, but here is an incomplete list of more major production facilities:

Pinewood Studios (Fayetteville)
Screen Gems (Lakewood)
Atlanta Metro Studios (Union City)
Blackhall Studios ("Constitution")
Eagle Rock (Norcross and Stone Mountain)
OFS (Norcross/Doraville)
Third Rail Studios (Doraville)

And some smaller ones:
Raleigh Studios, or whatever it's called now (Senoia)
Atlanta Film Studios (Hiram)
Atlanta Filmworks (Doraville)
Mailing Avenue Studios (Grant Park-ish)

And more coming all the time. This doesn't include the dozens of large warehouses used as studio spaces around town. Many of the TV shows lease their own warehouses and film in those.

They don't have to go far. Just a few miles OTP and you can be in a rural setting with rivers and waterfalls.

Filming in Vancouver - Current Movies and TV Shows
The count of active or upcoming TV series and TV movie productions in metro Atlanta is a record 81 as of August 6, 2017. This does not include FEATURE FILMS!

Atlanta has Vancouver beat by more than 50 TV series ALONE ... not counting MOVIES!

Nice try though ... bless your heart.

What the ... ?! Movie studios needs SPACE! They demand lots of vacant land and quiet exteriors. Locating studios in the heart of the city isn't practical from a FINANCIAL or LOGISTICS or CREATIVE standpoint. This is why most of the new "bricks and mortar" studios in the Metro area are locating on the southside. With Pinewood Atlanta Studios (the largest purpose-built all digital film studio in the US) and 2 more two more film studios under way, Fayette County is about to become the No. 1 film and television production center in the nation -- and maybe the world. Pinewood Forrest in Fayetteville will be the first (and only) "live, work, create" film community in the United States -- at completion home to more than 3,000 creative professionals, support businesses, shops, offices, restaurants, boutique hotels, the main campus of the Georgia Film Academy AND a 3,000-seat performing arts center.

Very cool movie and interesting to see the local flavor in such a big movie.
Calling it "THE Buford Highway" though was a fail.
