But isn't this the sort of thing the City of Atlanta was to promote for land around Turner Field? What happened there? Had 15 years to do something and did nothing. And this group redeveloping BLOCKS of property is a much bigger deal than the old Sears building 25 years ago.

See my other post. This was what was talked about when Turner Field opened 20 years ago and why the Braves bailed on the City. The horse is out of the barn..

You will already find multiple threads on it.

The city deserves blame for bulldozing the area in the 50s / 60s and neglecting it for decades afterwards, but for the last 20 years the Braves had a lease on the area and ultimate say over what happened to that land during that time.

That didn't stop the city from trying to offer up multiple plans to redevelop the area to the Braves: Visions pitched for Turner Field parking lots

But now that the Braves are gone the redevelopment plans are looking more promising than ever and construction of the first phase is already under way. If the Braves aren't kicking themselves for moving out of this area already, they will be in a few years.

The tour—officially a “meetup”—will kick off Saturday evening at Mammal Gallery in the heart of the neighborhood and progress from there, led by city advocate the ATL Urbanist.

Those renderings are awesome and if this happens, it would go a long way towards changing the perception of Atlanta.

Also: I love how every street they show has been given a significant road diet and more room for bikes and peds. Hope they work with the city to make that happen.

Broad: 1 travel lane to closed to traffic

MLK: 3 / 4 travel lanes one-way to 2 lanes, two-way.

Mitchell: 2-4 one-way travel lanes down to 1 travel lane.

Peachtree: 4 lanes (2-way) to 2 lanes (2-way)
