I work in Buckhead and considering a place in Sandy Springs. This place off 400 Northbound, 6th exit. I tested the route from work driving northbound on Roswell road and its about 35 minutes. Not bad for the summer. I wonder how its going to be while school is in session. I don't plan to use 400 in the afternoons. Does anyone here drive that route (Roswell Road to North Sandy Springs)? How long is the commute from Buckhead during the school months? Thanks in advance.

It's worse when school's in. Sometimes a little worse, sometimes a lot.

You're probably right, just going Roswell Rd the whole way is probably your best bet, depending on your hours. 400 is so bad.

Right?! I hate 400. Ugh okay, I leave work around 4:15, hoping to make it home by 5 at the latest. If the commute is going to be an hour then I'll look elsewhere.

I'm not a huge fan of GA400, but in my experience the southbound traffic is much worse in the afternoon. Once you get down to Buckhead it often really jams up, with commuters coming home from those huge job centers up on the north side. Most city of Atlanta residents work outside the city limits, plus you've got all those folks trying to get back to the suburbs on the south, east and west sides of town.

What part of Buckhead? Do you mean Buckhead Village or the Lenox area? You can take Lake Forrest Rd. running parallel to Roswell Rd for a good ways. There's never a good time of day to be on Roswell Rd. in Sandy Springs. It's a parking lot. What is drawing you to the Sandy Springs apartment? Not trying to talk you out of it, but wondering about the rationale.

From the Lenox Area. Its cheaper than where I live now (perimeter/dunwoody). I found another place in this same area, but its a studio. I know the exact route its just that I"m concerned about space. This place in Sandy Springs has more space, but now my concern is the commute. I can't stand anything longer than 30 minutes

That's what I figured. It's all about trade-offs, and this doesn't sound like a bad one to make. You are trying to stay in your budget, obviously, which is a good thing. Your commute will be longer than you'd like on some days, but you work in an expensive and trafficky area. Seems like you are making a careful and reasonable decision.
