My husband and I are considering a move from coastal NC to the Alpharetta area with our two children ages 10 and 6. I am in the process of comparing North Fulton to South Forsyth. Looks like the schools are great in both areas but I'd love to hear more details and experiences from local folks.
Within South Forsyth- I'm also curious as to differences between Cumming and Suwannee.

We are an active family-- both children are involved in travel soccer and I would seek a local running group as well.

Thanks so much!

Simply put, Forsyth County will be cheaper than Fulton but both are really nice areas.

That covers it.

And would say that the main difference between Suwanee and Cumming that I discern is that Suwanee has a more developed and appealing town center.

Something that isn't plainly obvious to those not familiar with the area is that there's a good chunk of south Forsyth County that has Suwanee postal addresses. Suwanee's town center, however, is over the river in Gwinnett County.

In terms of access to jobs and restaurants/retail, Alpharetta in North Fulton is the clear winner. Of course, this also comes with higher housing prices. If you can find a house you love and can afford, I would move there.

South Forsyth is the value option. You still get top schools and low crime, but you get the benefit of lower housing prices and lower property taxes. We are actually moving from Brookhaven to this area in a few months. Posters here like AnsleyPark and MrPanda were actually the ones that got me to look in this area. You still get access to Alpharetta amenities, but at a lower price.

There is no real difference between Suwanee Forsyth and Cumming Forsyth, except that Suwanee Forsyth is closer to North Fulton. The actual city of Suwanee (which is in Gwinnett) does not even claim Suwanee Forsyth. It’s really just a mailing address.

We have family in John's Creek and they love the schools in North Fulton. There used to be a distinct difference between the North Fulton Schools and Forsyth County schools, but they are fairly equivalent now, especially the schools in South Forsyth. Forsyth has had a huge influx of affluent families for over a decade due to the great school, low crime, proximity to high tech jobs, and lower property taxes.

If I didn't need convenient access to the airport, I'd move to Forsyth.

I live in a neighborhood in Suwanee (the south Forsyth county side) on the Chattahoochee River (the Forsyth/Gwinnett county line). We are close to Johns Creek, Cumming, and Sugar Hill. My 13 year old daughter plays (and has for years) travel (Select) soccer at UFA (unitedfa.org - they have several locations but the main one is not too far from us in Cumming). The Forsyth county schools here are great. Lambert High excels both academically and athletically. I know the girls soccer team won state this year. It is a very sought after school district. When do you plan to move? I am happy to answer any questions you have about the schools and this area. My family loves it here!
