Yeah, I think more airlines in the market the better for all involved.

AirTran had lower fares and many more flights to more cities from here than Southwest does.

Try again.

This whole deal in Paulding County is about Allegiant Airlines wanting to come in with flights to Sanford/Orlando and Clearwater/St. Pete a couple of times a week. They don't want to pay the fees at ATL, which are already some of lowest in Country for a large Airport.

I don't think they have a chance of winning over the County Commission.

Right now the full name of that airport is "Silver Comet Field at Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport." I think it needs to be even longer, please!

Absolutely!

Some combination of Dallas, Cedartown, Rome and Metropolitan need to be added.

Throw in the names of a couple of local politicians for good measure.

And Atlanta has always been a hub of transportation so if you now take that away and only offer the same level of connectivity as any other metro its size and Atlanta loses a key competitive advantage.
This is my concern as well. Our major hub status seems to have been great for the city and attracts a lot of business. If this simple and robust hub is broken up and crosstown transfers become a thing, I think our advantage could be hurt. Why mess with this level of success?

But maybe not. Of course, this follows Delta's narrative so I don't know if that is really how it would play out.
