After decades of urbanization, one of the most urbanized counties in the Atlanta metropolitan area is exploring the prospect of implementing municipal trash pickup in its unincorporated residential areas.

Quote:
Clayton has debated offering a municipal garbage service for several years. Commission Chairman Jeff Turner said past studies have yielded options on how to run the operation, but none have been acted on.

Backers of trash pickup said it’s an economic development issue. Some have said Clayton has an image of being dirty and that has made it more difficult to attract jobs.

But opponents say cost is the issue.

Leave the trash pickup to private industry.

Doubtful Clayton County has the expertise to be in the trash business. Takes too much initial investment, and they've also got to get rid of the trash which costs big $$$.

So, Clayton County would join Gwinnett County in offering countywide trash pickup. I like the Gwinnett County method, everyone gets a slice of the pie.

Any other counties in the metro with countywide trash pickup?
