I disagree, and I think it's important that "regular" historic buildings are preserved as well.

Just so you can use the word 'juxtaposition' and appear intelligent.

serious question, what is "historic" about it? Or is it just old?

I certainly don't want Atlanta getting any more of the all-glass buildings, which I think look bad & don't age well, but is this building any better?

Agreed. They just seem to keep acting as privileged as one would expect them to.

The fact that Atlanta doesn't have as many historic/old buildings left as it should have should be reason enough to preserve it, but the linked articles in this thread provide more information about it.

But it's hard for me to read stuff on Curbed. They are so freaking biased that it almost hurts to read a lot of their stuff.

And I don't mean the kind of biased that people like to throw out as accusations against content they just don't agree with. I mean, they are really biased, so much that I can't imagine they even try to deny it.
I don't think Curbed even pretends to be journalistic; they clearly present a POV on about every article they publish. It is what it is.

I'm no architect, I just call every ugly square building with ugly windows brutalist.
If you want to see a true example of Brutualist Architecture, look at Central Library and other works of Breuer.

As to the building in question, I really can't see what the fuss is about. There is some interesting Beaux-Arts detail on it, but I don't find it particularly distinctive.

Does a building have to be "particularly distinctive" to be worthy of preservation? I think buildings that do a good job of blending into the backdrop can be just as valuable as standouts.

I think that architectural distinction and historical significance should in most cases be the primary criteria for preservation, yes.

Yes. Preserving everything old simply means you have a lot of mediocre outdated product.
