They could do a lot in that whole area south of Peachtree Creek and west of I-75. Most of the area is industrial and underutilized, so its not like putting a road through the middle of Tuxedo Park. They really should do a plan and require ROW for some rezoning requests.

Sure, tell the people in Underwood Hills that paid $650k for their homes that you're building an interchange less than a mile north of the Howell Mill exit on 75.

Howell Mill needs major, major work. Northside too.

Fully agree with the I-75/Collier interchange. That alone would fix a massive amount of the issues in the area. Even just a southbound entrance/northbound exit from 75 would go a long way.

As far as extending to Marietta Blvd, you'd have to get Pepsi to give up a good part of their land. And after 12 years of living just footsteps from this intersection, I can tell you that very few people turn left onto Marietta from Chattahoochee, so I'm not sure how heavily the extension would be used. It never did connect. But what I found interesting is what used to be where the Pepsi plant is now. Any guesses?

Any interchange would require expensive land acquisitions and braided ramps to avoid the issues that plaque Downtown Connector.

And it's appropriate, IMO, given this area's illogical roads and generally terrible infrastructure and connectivity. Fix that before adding mid-rises and more density to an area that was never intended or designed for it.

Anyway, awesome news. Exciting!
The article mentioned that there would eventually be new development in addition to the adaptive reuse. So presumably, some of the new construction could be taller.

Yes, it is mostly a complete wish item, not something that is actually feasible.

It could conceivably be done using the same setup as the Moore's Mill exits on just the north side of Collier by obtaining just two or three of the small business houses (one long vacant) on the east side of the interstate (the land to the north of those is owned by the state or whoever owns the interstate land), and the small apartment building to the west of the interstate plus two vacant parcels. None of those parcels should be particularly expensive in relation to the cost of ramp construction. This would avoid the braided intersections you talk about.

This would remove a substantial amount of traffic from Howell Mill between Collier and the interstate, and the backups on Collier that frequently extend 3/8 of a mile or more, and the backups on Howell Mill northbound which frequently extend more than 1/4 mile. It would also help prevent the backups at the Howell Mill exit which sometimes backup onto the interstate to past the Northside exit. And, it would provide the necessary relief to allow more density to be built along Collier, from another thread.

In the end, no, it will never happen, but it would solve a lot of issues in the area.
