Some other changes I thought of that would help the infrastructure of the entire west side area (that would piggyback off the others mentioned above):

-Make Bolton Rd @ 285 a full interchange, to and from both directions:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7993...4892915,16.87z

-Move the last 300ft of Browntown Rd to the north, to intersect with Perry Blvd @ Hollywood (with 4-way traffic light):
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.8045...4710317,18.33z

-Extend Johnson Rd 100ft south to Hollowell Pkwy right here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7795...4591408,16.74z

-Connect Trabert Ave to Deering, with a nice 4-way intersection at Northside (and pave and stripe Trabert):
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7957...4094471,17.53z

If all that stuff was in place, you could add a lot of density to the westside area, and people would have lots of ways to funnel in and out of there, without all the bottlenecking and terribly indirect routing. Just my opinion.

City of Atlanta owns all that wooded land, bound by Peachtree Creek and 285, north of the interchange. It was purchased as part of the Consent Decree and is protected greenway to improve water quality. Building a ramp would require EPD and EPA approval.

I do agree that Trabert Ave and Deering would improve the street grid over there.

Yes!

Don't know anything about this area. Would require taking several homes. But looking at the map...yes, that is a connection that makes sense.

This would also require taking numerous houses and completely breaking up that neighborhood. If we were going to do that, I would prefer this instead: extend Johnson to meet with Mildred at Hollywood, where Gun Club intersects now. Create a 4-way signalized intersection, and adjust Gun Club and Mildred to better intersect with the new road. Then extend that through the land that the City Of Atlanta owns, and connect to Hollowell just west of the police station and Center Hill Park.

Sure. Would require removal of one of the warehouses, but doable. Would create a link I would use frequently.

Just judging by parcel maps, there is enough ROW for the interstate to build a ramp without getting into the purchased lot. On the southbound side of the interstate, they could lose the circle and build a straight off ramp, then build a straight on ramp on the south side of Bolton. There also appears to be plenty of room on the southeast side of Bolton to realign the exit ramp from 285 North and do a circle from Bolton on to 285 North.

Agreed, I like your idea better.

Whole idea of those 3 suggestions being, Marietta Rd/Johnson Rd corridor should feed heavily from I-285, via Bolton and 78, rather than being so linked with the I-75 corridor. And Perry Blvd also.

Then meanwhile, for everything north and east of Crest Lawn, they should try to improve access points to/from I-75, and improve more backdoor direct flowing roads into Midtown and Brookwood.

Everything between Monroe Dr and Howell Mill, should be an urban grid, with as many straight-through direct street connections and 4-way intersections as possible. Then going west of Howell, those E/W streets and arteries should turn into the roads of the Westside. But for the most part you shouldn't have to actually get on Howell, just to go a few hundred feet north or south before turning onto another road.

How about this one: if they can relocate Terminal West and a few other buildings, 10th St could extend west from Brady Avenue as a major cross-street, to West Marietta St, with a bridge over the railroad tracks, and a new traffic light there:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7814...4161165,17.42z

That would give the Marietta Blvd corridor a direct link with Midtown, bypassing Howell Mill.

Well, that's not happening. Terminal West is currently growing into a go-to place. You might be able to take part of the small office building on the southeast end, and run 10th just southeast of the main building and squeeze it past the new parking garage, but I doubt you'll get too many people in favor of removing Terminal West.

Maybe to touch back to your Huff thing, Huff could be extended along Hemphill, then turn south to intersect 14th HERE. That's about the closest you're going to get to a direct link without some major upheaval.

Yes...Good idea.

Completing the interchange for Bolton and I-285 is on the TIP (Transportation Improvement Program) list from ARC as of last fall. I am not sure of the status as I am not directly involved in the project.

Roundabouts: Bolton @ Hollywood, Hollywood @ Hightower, Johnson @ Hollywood.

Cutting thru Hemphill is a non-starter. That is the water supply and treatment for 1.3M people, they are going to risk having a street cut thru it.
