more like idiot mom... who in the heck pull the trigger of a gun to "test" it in an enclosed space like a mall dressing room. Luckily no one was injured. I agree, she should be charged. How about just handing the gun to security and let them deal with it?

Isn't that just kicking the can down the road? Somebody needed to find out if this thing was dangerous.

Sorry but there's no defending her. If she was a responsible adult, she would've taken the gun, went outside to the traffic circle, and fired off multiple shots into the air while shouting "'Merica!."

Arjay, So true. Same lady jumped in the shark tank at the aquarium to see if they were hungry.

HAHA. This sounds like a story that'd be on The Onion.

If she'd simply left the gun lying there the next person who came in could have picked it up and mistakenly discharged it in a dangerous direction.
Smart doesn't play into this in any way shape or form. It's nothing less than mind-numbingly irresponsible. A .22 caliber handgun easily has the capability to kill. Just ask Robert Kennedy. I'm a gun enthusiast and would have no difficulty determining if a handgun is real and if it is loaded, but finding a handgun or gun of any type is not like finding a lost wallet. My first thoughts...was this lost by an irresponsible individual or was it involved in a crime. Either way, the woman, while keeping her child safely away from the gun, should have called out for a store employee from the dressing room and insist they contact security. Otherwise, she could have called 911 from the dressing room.

Perhaps someone from Law Enforcement who is experienced should have been the one to contact as soon as the gun was found.
Discharging a weapon inside is stupid at best no matter the caliber.

But for her quick thinking somebody could have been hurt.

Tell me you were being sarcastic when you called this mom "smart."

And who the hell just leaves guns lying around in changing rooms?

When I read that she decided to pull the trigger to see if it was real, the impression I quickly got was that she was going to give it to her kid if it was a toy. That's the only logical reason I can gather for her needing to "check it."

Either that or she just wanted to let out some built up stress.
