You must not have read through the thread, this has already been addressed.

There are 3 backup flights on Virgin & Delta if there's a delay.

Default Big Airport

This is a gigantic airport and you better not trust that you will get there when you are supposed to. More than one thing can go wrong, leaving you to have to get another flight.

The great thing about ATL is multiple choices, even if you miss this flight, there will be additional flights to London on either Delta or Virgin Atlantic (Delta's partner) that you can be rebooked on.

The last 3 times I've been at the airport either flying INTO ATL or picking someone up, the flight has been delayed more than 45 minutes.

Yeah, but if you have a specific seat selection, you probably won't get it, or have to get somewhere on the other end, it's not always preferable to take the later flight.

OP -- why risk it?

I was just answering to how the question was phrased. I find it hard to believe Delta wouldn't try everything in its power to get that person a later flight if the flight was delayed. Furthermore, if the person is connecting or terminating in London, Virgin Atlantic would have multiple choices, to some destinations from Heathrow or Gatwick.

Then why worry about the time given for a layover?

That would be a question for the OP, not me.
