This happened because MARTA and everyone else made it be known how much he turned MARTA around. Maybe next time they should not broadcast how good the next CEO is as much because the more they broadcast it the higher change that another company will take notice and offer them a better deal

Robbie Ashe, chairman of the MARTA board, did dispel one rumor – that a possible candidate could be Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, whose two terms as mayor will end in January.
“I’ve gotten no sign from Mayor Reed that he’s interested in the job,” Ashe said in a brief interview before an APTA media lunch on Tuesday at the Georgia World Congress Center. “Obviously his support for public transit has been exceptional. But I have seen absolutely no indication that it’s on his radar.”

“Amazon is the biggest prize out there,” Parker said, adding that developers are contacting MARTA asking how they can put a deal together to land Amazon. “MARTA is front and center in those conversations We are having to retrofit our cities to make transit fit. What we are saying as an industry, we know public transit will have an important seat at the table.”

MARTA is going to do without a chief operating officer and a chief marking and communications officer, as the new boss reorganizes the transit agency and eliminates the two positions.

MARTA’s operations department will now report to Deputy General Manager Rob Troup. Troup himself joined MARTA in September, 2017.

“It was kind of as if Rob and Rich were doing very similar things, so we did not need both,” Fisher said.

Krisak could not immediately be reached for comment.

Fisher also said that the move is not in any way related to news earlier this week that a MARTA train struck and killed an electrical contractor who was in a work vehicle on the tracks at Medical Center station.

“It was in the works before that unfortunate incident,” said Fisher.

And the post of chief marking and communications officer didn’t exist prior to the tenure of MARTA’s previous general manager, said Fisher.

“Jeff Parker doesn’t feel it’s something he needs,” she said. Fisher said she will report directly to him.
