Would it stand in the way of Atlanta? ..well..Atlanta overshadows it in size, but Charlotte definitely has a clear edge and advantage over planning and development and especially transit options...there's more to a city than being big.
Wait, are you telling me that 1 LRT line is better than MARTA's 48 miles of HRT and direct connection to most large employment centers in the metro and the busiest airport in the world?

No, it seems that they were quoting idiots.

The south as a region has a long way to go. Atlanta is already there.

No the south doesn't, comment like that are stupid because it's like some 1950's monolithic view of the South.

Major cities in the South especially the larger ones, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Miami are more cosmopolitan than Seattle in the first place. And to some degree already tech cities.

Honestly I question some of the he said she said stuff by some of the commentators they could making the whole thing up, I believe commentators like that are trolls. And want to believe that stuff because they envy of the south and sunbelt growth the past few decades. But we see what happens.

I question the wisdom of putting a person of that mindset in charge of recruiting efforts.

All of these cities are mismanaged and poor choices. What's next, Detroit?

A Seattle perspective.

"...As Amazon evaluates bids for HQ2, it is said to be weighing two major gauges of the labor market among its range of data points: the number of highly educated workers already in a city, and Amazon’s assessment of how many young computer science and engineering graduates it could convince to move to a particular area...."*
Atlanta does really well in luring millennials doesn’t it? It has to be easier to lure people to Atlanta than Seattle and they do extremely well.

That's one person in the comments section to the article claiming that one recruiter said that to him.

Jeff Bezos lived in Houston and Miami as a kid and owns a ton of land in Texas. He's not as bigoted and ignorant as some of the people in the comments section. And a lot of those engineers and software designers grew up in the South and went to schools like Texas, Rice, Georgia Tech and North Carolina (among others). The worst school busing riots happened in the 70s in Boston, not in the south. Houston was the first big city to elect an openly lesbian mayor. Atlanta probably has the biggest group of Black entrepreneurs.

Amazon wants diversity. Seattle is lacking in diversity relative to other big US metros. The city is 66.3% non-Hispanic White and metro 68.0% non-Hispanic White. Atlanta metro is barely 50% non-Hispanic White. Houston is less than 40% non-Hispanic White.
