IF this dude showed up for matters related to HQ2, he would likely be here to ensure that development and construction of the Atlanta campus adheres to Amazon's stringent environmental concerns and LEED certifications.
One thing to note as well. Isn't Mercedes-Benz Stadium the only LEED platinum stadium in North America? With Amazons commitment to better energy, could the recent Gulch plans that were filed and this knowledge kind of paint a picture as to what may potentially happen?

There is to be no more discussion of Pittsburgh in this thread. This is fair warning that any further discussion of Pittsburgh in this Atlanta thread is infractionble.

Dude Hip hop is a billion dollar industry one the most popular genres in world We got Korean, Latin Hip hop artists charting in the US. Atlanta is pretty much going to be in history book over music like Harlem, Motown and New Orleans and etc. Again Atlanta has 26 gold album artists, many of which are multi platinum some even diamond. Seriously I just told you Atlanta host music awards shows on TV. And not just Hip hop clearly it's African American culture in general. The idea that a city can consider or debated as the capital of black America but is seem is as un cool and vanilla... that a direct paradox. Along with New York, LA, Chicago, SF and Miami Atlanta is one most exposed cities in the Media and pop culture.

My larger point was general pop culture and entertainment not just Hip hop that was just an example I used. If Amazon was looking at multiple stuff that include expanding Amazon video, Atlanta would be one of the best cities for that.
LMAO,Atlanta over MOTOWN!? Are you kidding me!? Sorry but DETROIT, BERRY GORDY created a CULTURAL LEAP in the consciousness of EVERYONE not black when it came to music! Don't even try to put Andrea 3000, LaFace records or whatever came thereafter in the same stratosphere as what Motown did! Hell, Philly in the 70s/80s was just as big if not big with Hall & Oates, Teddy Pendergrass, Evelyn King, Jeffrey Osborne and the O'Jays!

A truly LUDICROUS post (Pun intended) about Atlanta music! laughable...

I would think any metro smaller than Baltimore really couldn't handle it.

So if you eliminate west coast cities, its New York, Chicago, DFW, Houston, DC, Philly, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis, Tampa, Denver, St. Louis and Baltimore. The criteria pretty much assume NYC and DC won't be it. Boston and Minneapolis have stated they aren't providing big incentives. So that narrows it down to only 11 metros and about half of them are very unlikely.

Having lived in Atlanta, now in Dallas/FW and visiting Austin often, the latter's weakness is traffic mobility. Other than that, Its got plenty of room to grow and yea its a big tech hub with an Amazon subsidiary based there - Whole Foods. And it has Apple' second biggest campus and Samsung's only chip plants ($17 billion worth) outside of Korea. Since 1990, Austin city proper has DOUBLED in population. So yea it can handle growth and is why many studies have it in their top 5 choices.

Second, Houston and DFW, like Austin, are NOT west coast city but east of the Rockies

That lobbyist (Jacob Oster) registered in Illinois recently. Not sure about any other states.

You completely misread his post. Take a couple of deep breaths and calm down.

They're hiring a lawyer in every state they're seriously considering since they plan to negotiate with each finalist and one of the possible requirements is to establish a state or local government office staffed to represent Amazon on local issues and affairs. They will essentially have a lobbyist team embedded in the state government.

Amazon is now the largest corporate lobbyist in DC

Atlanta is already a designated logistics hub for Amazon. Wilmington, DE was recently rejected in favor of Cincinatti/N Kentucky for another hub. They could be looking for an HQ in the Mid-Atlantic in places like Richmond/Norfolk and Philadelphia/Lehigh near the federal government for lobbying and the expected award for the $53 billion government-wide e-commerce contract.

Thanks for the ammo, Mutiny.
That is a very interesting list, Iconographer. California has 42 schools on the list, and NY/NJ has 57. Throw in Connecticut and Mass and you get 32 more.

Texas has 15, but Georgia is no slouch among STEM school rankings with 11 on the list. That's not bad at all in my opinion.

Texas is a huge underperformer. It's like more than 2 and a half times the population of our state, but only has 15.

It just goes to show you how much more seriously the NE and the West takes education over the South. It's still haunted by it's agrarian, slave-oriented past.

I didn't notice the significance, but Business Insider noted that
Did a little bit more digging into this. I found that the same lobbyist, Jacob Oster, had also registered in Illinois as an exclusive lobbyist on 11/10/17. However, that filing in IL was for Amazon.com and not for Amazon Corporate. Two other lobbyists also registered earlier this year in IL for Amazon.com in March and June. The Official Website for the Illinois Secretary of State

In Georgia, Amazon previously hired an outside lobbyist in January 2012 and the client is listed as Amazon.com, like the lobbyists who registered in IL. The entity listed on Jacob Oster's registration in GA is Amazon Corporate LLC. Lobbyist Reports Search | Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission of Georgia of Georgia

For kicks, I conducted a search for lobbyists for MA, TX, CO and PA. MA and TX only had lobbyists registered on behalf of Amazon.com.

In CO, an in-house lobbyist, Sally Kay, registered on behalf of Amazon corporate on July 14, 2017, before the RFP was made public.

In PA, an outside firm has been registered to lobby in the state on behalf of Amazon corporate since 5/26/2011 and last renewed registration on 12/20/16.

ETA: Looked up VA's lobbyist registrations as well. Not surprisingly, Amazon Corporate has had a perpetual lobbyist presence in VA.

So the significance of Jacob Oster's registration seems to be that he is lobbying on behalf of the corporation, the timing (after the RFP was made public), and that Amazon corporate does not appear to have hired a lobbyist in GA in recent history. If not related to Amazon HQ2, why would they need to lobby here all of a sudden?
