Unless a bus rolls by every 5 minutes, I wouldn't count on it to take me to and from lunch.

The 39 rolls by about every 10-15.

I wouldn't want to tie up 20-30 minutes of lunch with bus time, and that's with good/lucky timing.

The Amazon campus in Seattle is very self-contained and has many shopping and eating establishments within its' borders. The new campus no doubt will as well. We're talking 50,000 employees; a small city, really.

39 is the number the Washington Post came up with-the contenders and why:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.a80a20733188

Their top 12 are Philadelphia, Atlanta, DC, Baltimore, Raleigh-Durham, Orlando, Nashville, Detroit, Cleveland, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Toronto and Mexico City. Of course the article also says the number of employees may mean only the top 10-15 metros could provide enough talent. Since they eliminate NYC, LA, San Francisco and Chicago for various reasons, that would leave Philadelphia, Atlanta, DC, Detroit, Toronto (but no way they go to Mexico City), DFW, Houston, Miami, Boston and Phoenix.

And yes, your eyes aren't deceiving you. Despite considering Atlanta one of the top candidates, they didn't list its name on the map and placed it in the middle of Alabama.

Again, assuming ATL really is in the game, the kind of project an Amazon 2HQ will bring changes on an order of magnitude; overnight. From building development, to transportation infrastructure... Simply, a game changer, for the winner.

This is not just about this particular huge RFP, it is typical of almost all large RFPs. Seen it many times. A winner, if not finalist picked before the gun is sounded on the race start. A dark horse out of nowhere, sure, but mostly unheard of.

From what I recall of Doraville, it's still a long way out from being "urban". Might not be an easy sell to Amazon. Amazon's offices in Seattle are in its downtown for sure, so they might want it "now".

As I said earlier, with a 6 week window for the RFP, it sounds like they already have a short list who they have been talking to. Chicago was mentioned as having already talked to them. Chicago was NOT one of the cities they needed to be able to fly to.

Hmmmm
Atlanta’s Real Estate Sector Abuzz Over Office Prospect

I tend think that this could easily go to someplace that no one is talking about. The Midwest states are willing to spend some cash to rebuild their rust belt economies. I really don't view a city's currently tech presence as much of a factor. Most any decent-sized city will be able to attract and retain employees with a job at Amazon. And once Amazon locates HQ2 there it immediately makes that place a tech hub.

It could surge real estate prices too. Thats my biggest concern. Hopefully theres some good land near the airport. That area will never be terribly expensive. That'll help dilute rapid changes as opposed to if they landed in the city, where you could see rapid gentrification and rising COL overnight.
