Where are you seeing or hearing that?

The triumvirate of Washington, D.C., Montgomery County, Maryland, and Northern Virginia already have a lock on Amazon HQ2, and likely one of those spots has already been chosen

Jeff Bezos, who bought the Washington Post in 2013, is now building a second home in D.C.

Amazon does need distribution centers and other offices. Why not see what’s available and what each government is willing to hand out? They may not get HQ2, but in a great bait-and-switch, could get a warehouse or fulfillment center, or even other tech offices.

I don't buy the "Washington has it in the bag" argument. Washington has three bids because they are all in different states/jurisdictions. Tax benefits or whatever will be different in each.

Bezos, in addition to his Medina estate on Lake Washington (a few doors down from Gates), also owns 2 homes in Beverly Hills, a condo in Manhattan, and a home in middle of nowhere Texas:

Jeff Bezos owns five massive homes across the United States. - Business Insider

So, that fact in itself doesn't mean that DC is a guarantee for HQ2. Maybe he just wants a home in DC so he can socialize with big politicians (same neighborhood as Obama and the Kushners and a bunch of big names), and lobby and such, and because he owns the Washington Post.

However I do personally think Northern Virginia is the most likely. Just my hunch. Followed by Boston. Then maybe Atlanta.

From my experience if a CEO lives or builds a home in a city right before building a new office that new office is going where that CEO lives/has a home. So it’s likely going to be in the DMV area.

Jeff Bezos is the world's richest man and has homes everywhere. I don't think the experience of a typical CEO applies to him. I like your username.

For regular people yes.

For billionaires no

Well we are home to the 3rd most Fortune 500 companies and have a GDP that ranks 17th in the world. We must be doing something right.

From the beginning this site has, in some respects as much sense as the gulch. Has Marta, has several major highway links, cannot discount corporate jet service at Peachtree Dekalb airport, a solid diverse neighboring community in Chamblee/Doraville and many other quality of life factors. A completely blank canvas in the GM plant site. Oh, and do not discount how the State of Georgia handled the I85 fire and bridge collapse. It shows the State can get things done very quickly, given the situation.

Amazon is not going to plop down 50,000 employees in a campus overnight. Five years maybe, but not in 12 months. The state government will make things happen when needed. Atlanta area and Georgia in particular are about business first. It calls the tune when all is said and done.

I say the county boundary lines are much more insurmountable impediments than the river.
