Welp, I guess if anything this'll fend off investors for a while and long enough until the major Beltline developments are complete and transit is up and running

It may have been DC all along, but Atlanta got some good press it of this too. I'm hoping that the city continues to be aggressive in attracting major employers using the full arsenal of it's resources. Atlanta has a lot of great things to offer -- beautiful neighborhoods, great downtown "bones," a transit system that can support greater densities, and much more. Here's to a great future without Amazon.

Amazon has had Advanced Talks about bringing HQ2 to Crystal City, Virginia
BTW, not that it changes my point (Bezos owns a home in Texas as well), but it also says things are down to Austin.

Bezos has known all along that he was going to put Amazon's second headquarters in the D.C. area. He was just playing us all against each other for his own benefit (and probably his own pleasure, too).
But again, Amazon has expansion plans well beyond HQ2 and that's where other cities come into play. And the publicity has also been to the benefit of the finalist cities. Although only one jurisdiction can win HQ2, all 20 will certainly benefit when it comes to corporate expansions and relocations down the road from a plethora of companies. This hasn't been the one-sided show that many have depicted it as being.

Probably to closest thing to a smoking gun we'll get...

BTW, Mike Grella is the director of economic development at Amazon...

If they land Crystal City, what a prime location that would be. Have fun with those winters though. Atlanta will be just fine.

So true! We need Transit to support greater density. It’s only so much you can do near current existing Marta Stations.

DC winters aren't all that bad, compared to Boston or Chicago, other than the 2 foot snowstorm every few years.

It's more akin to a Louisville or OKC-type winter.

Between this report and Bezos saying he would go with his heart (which is clearly in DC and not Atlanta or Chicago, two cities he hasn't even visited), it's hard to believe NoVA isn't a done deal at ths point.
Those places are priced similarly to most housing in Metro Atlanta these days. You would have to live nearly 25+ miles outside the city to find reasonably affordable housing in the Atlanta area these days. Basically, Metro Atlanta housing costs are as outrageous as Metro DC's housing costs. The difference has always been transit accessibility.

DC winters are only on average about 3-4 weeks longer than winters here in Atlanta. Honestly, DC is just as humid and temperate as the majority of the year as the most of the South. That typical considering DC is historically a Southern city. Spend a winter in Richmond, it's about the same as winters in DC.
