If the current forecast holds up, Metro Atlanta could take a "direct hit". Direct hit may mean sustained winds, accompanied with much stronger gusts, and lots and lots of rain.

Be aware, and bring in any outdoor furniture, or anything that could easily be blown around and cause damage to you or your property. Be aware of trees in peril and in danger of falling.

Good luck. Be safe out there.

Tell that to my neighbors. I hope that their trees are in good condition.

That reminds me...I have something I need to get done on Monday. I wonder how many businesses will be closed. I guess it's still early and we will have to wait for a more accurate forecast.

Yeah this should definitely be taken seriously. Meteorologist are forecasting tropical storm force winds 40+ mph.
Back in March of this year we had a storm and a 25 mph wind did damage to many trees in the area and did this to my dad's car. (One side of the garage is currently full of junk and other side has another car parked.)

If 25 mph did that, 40+ plus is very concerning.
And we know how trees tumble like match sticks in GA.

The latest forecast I saw (The Weather Channel app) has it going right up 75 into Atlanta. Hopefully everyone who evacuated from Florida and the Georgia coast can get where they're going. 75 still looked crowded in sections, and even a tropical storm is something you don't want to be stuck in your car for.

Actually, being stuck on a highway, especially in rural areas might be the better option since there's very little debris to be thrown around (except for people who have their stuff tied to their roofs and stuff in pickup trucks).

But there might be tornadoes, which can make the cars themselves into debris.

I think a lot of people will take Monday off from work, and wisely so.

Made all that effort to come up here in the chance that Irma hit my town down in FL, just for it to steer away from it, and aim right at the ATL. Great. Glad to see those 12 hrs of driving, and short night sleeping in my car at the Welcome Center were worth it.
