Atlanta is ready for pro-urban lane narrowing, but I'm not sure Brookhaven is. This artery and this area is very, very suburban. Almost everything is a deep suburban setback. There's a freestanding McDonald's with a drive-thru, for Pete's sake. Surely that's a bigger threat to pedestrians than the lane widths.

The crash data does not back up your claim.

And one of the best corridors in an inner-suburb to see more density, as there is a high capacity transit line running along it.

I think the priority should be making Atlanta more dense and less suburban, first. Because it's not like it is.

Then Brookhaven follow suit eventually.

We are more than capable of doing both. GDOT is not the master of desnification in Atlanta, nor is Brookhaven the limiting factor in Atlanta's densification. As such, there is more than enough human capital to densify both places. Especially given the under-developed rapid transit station within Brookhaven itself.

Fixed that for you.

It's not like local governments can just force the densificiation of Atlanta first, then focus on other inner-ring suburbs. Market demand is driving private developers to increase density in places like Brookhaven, Perimeter Center, Alpharetta, Decatur, Cumberland, etc. It helps that Brookhaven has rail transit along this corridor and this project will connect the transit station to Brookhaven's largest mixed-use development with a multiuse trail.
It's just a matter of time, until the low-density, car centric strip malls north of the station are redeveloped into higher tax-generating, mixed income, medium density developments.
