Carter wasn't all that awful of a president. He was an average one-termer, comparable to Bush I. Reagan just came along with his charm and self-confidence, and it was a much more popular style and look than Carter's quiet nature. And during Carter's presidency he had the misfortune of the whole economic slump and the energy crisis and then the Iran hostage crisis.

At least Carter is the best ex-president ever, many would agree.

Donald Trump, there's no comparison. With really anyone. Our absolute worst president ever, and worst person to ever hold the office. Probably won't even last his full term.

Republicans would be making a huge mistake if they think a Republican is a shoe-in. It's a known fact that polls are often wrong, AND a known fact that Democrats are much more likely to get out the vote. Be forewarned, Republicans. Take nothing for granted!

Had the botched rescue attempt of the hostages held in the American Iranian embassy been successful, I believe President Carter would have been re-elected. The hostage crisis was, unfortunately, was the defining event in President Carter's administration.

That is a good point that Republicans probably should not think that they will be an automatic shoo-in to retain control of the Georgia Governor's Mansion as well as overwhelming majority control of both chambers of the Georgia Legislature.

That is also a great point that polls are often wrong.

Though, in recent years, much of the polling that seems to have been incorrect often has been the polling (typically by media outlets like the Atlanta Journal-Constitution) that has shown Democratic candidates with poll numbers that seem to be higher than the actual outcomes of races would seem to indicate in statewide electoral contests.

And while Democrats seem to have done an excellent job in getting out their vote in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections in which Barack Obama was elected and re-elected president, it probably also should be noted that Democrats seem to have struggled substantially to get out their vote in Georgia statewide contests in recent years and decades, including gubernatorial elections, US senatorial elections and presidential elections.

Though, in a political environment that potentially could be very challenging for the GOP in November because of ongoing extreme volatility within the federal administrative branch, you make a great point that Republicans should take nothing for granted during the 2018 electoral cycle.

18% inflation combined with 8% unemployment and no credit available with hours long gas lines are the defining events of Carter's administration. You have a very short memory. Arguably the worst president since the Civil War. Although I don't think he's nearly as unpopular in Georgia as he is elsewhere. I know in my precinct people braved hours long voting lines to elect Reagan.

Carter had failings, but I'm not sure presidents should get all the blame/credit for everything that happens with the economy while they are the president.

He had successes, such as the Camp David Accords. He successfully brokered peace between Israel and Egypt.

Also the Panama Canal Treaty, which gave away our ownership of the Panama Canal but in doing so reversed fierce anti-US sentiment in Latin America. Panama hated us before that, now we're good friends.

Basically he shined in the area of foreign relations and diplomacy. During and after his presidency. One of the top presidents ever in that one specific category. While overall not a successful or popular president, for sure.

Cagle moved up 7 points in this poll. He was at 31 in feb, now at 38. 50% of those surveyed agreed with cagles’s comments.

Well there you have it. Just a quick reminder that we still live in GA, although the shift away from southern conservatism has long been underway.
