According to the website.

I tried to add trips to my Breeze Card. Sure enough, the order shows up as complete, but the money isn't showing up as available on my card yet...

What is this, 1997? Seriously, why in the world isn't this instant? The charge goes through instantly...they charge my card instantly....but it takes 24 hours before I can use it. HUH?????

If I'm not mistaken, it will load to your card at the rail station once you tap it.

It's not instant because MARTA still has to reconcile your purchase over night. Same as when you use your credit card to purchase and it pending.

Yeah, it should be instantly available if you tap it at a rail station.

Not sure if it will be immediately available for a bus, though. Might not.

Oh, that's good to know. I have to go the Five Points station at around midnight and I'd rather not be outside the gates fumbling with the machine....

It works instantly at the rail stations because they're connected to the internet. The buses fareboxes aren't, and have to be updated overnight. You can tap your card on a breeze card vending machine, and then on a bus, because the breeze card machine will update your card with the new current balance. I don't know if they're planning to make this better as they add internet service to the buses; it would be nice.

You've got to admit, though, it's kind of weird that it doesn't show up on your online view into your card right away.

I mean, if you buy a game in the Playstation store, Sony doesn't make you wait 24 hours before you can download it.
Amazon doesn't hold your payment for 24 hours before sending your merchandise.

You get the idea....

You have a point. If you were planning on taking the bus and had charged up your card on the internet you might get stuck.

I could understand why you would want to do it online. I was actually at a Marta station one time and the machine legit would not accept my card. I thought...how stubborn of me to stay at the same machine and I went to another machine and had the same problems. Not once have I had a problem using my card for payment at any store. No wonder people have to go in behind others at the gate. How can they get through the gate if they can't even pay for trips/other fares. And I know I'm not the only one. I met a woman who put money on her card and her card wouldn't work at the gate? Really? And not one person, as usual, there to help. Even if someone was there, they would just tell that person to pay for another ride and that there isn't anything they can do about it.

Yep. And last year, one time the machine DID charge my card and DID NOT issue a Breeze card.

The receipt gave me an 800 number to call, which of course was only manned 9-5 with ridiculous hold times. I just disputed the charge with my credit card company. I posted about it here.

From the circle jerk going on celebrating the guy who just resigned from MARTA, you'd think there weren't ANY problems that still need to be addressed. But I think the fare system probably is one area that really could use some attention. Those machines are terrible, and why can't you refill your card instantly using the app? You should be able to refill it on your way to the station.

Incidentally, my card did work at the station even though the website showed a zero balance.
