I'll be arriving at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport on a Sunday night (after 8pm) and wanted to ride the MARTA Red Line to the Sandy Springs station. How safe is MARTA at this time of night for a woman alone, particularly on a weekend?

There are cities where I would feel comfortable doing this and some where I wouldn't, but even though I've visited Atlanta dozens of times I usually have a car and have never had a need to use MARTA.

Thanks for your insight.

All MARTA railcars are equipped with interior cameras and intercoms to call the operator in case of emergency.

Should be safe. There are MARTA security agents around, and cameras at the platforms and in the cars. Might be a few weirdos, but I doubt any danger.

Also keep in mind that after 8:50 PM on Sunday nights, the Red Line only runs between Lindbergh and Sandy Springs:

So if you're after that cutoff, you'll have to take a Gold Line train to Lindbergh, and transfer there to Red. 2 trains instead of 1.

MARTA comes straight into the airport, so you'll be perfectly safe boarding. The train itself is also very safe. You'll have to transfer at Lindbergh, which is in a safe neighborhood and Sandy Springs is also safe. So yep, you should be perfectly safe!!!

However, I advise keeping a hand on your luggage at all times and not leaving it unattended in the luggage holders in the front of each car.

As a woman who's travelled alone at night on the red line home to sandy springs, I feel safe. I'd expect a sunday to be quieter. The density of trains reallllllly thins out the more north you go, but oddly enough I haven't travelled at night on sunday.

Be very afraid, on the Red Line you have to travel through the south side of Atlanta , college park, west end, and especially five points as is heavily debated on another thread here and you may see people who don't look like you nor dress like you

There will be a lot of travelers boarding at the airport along with you, and many of them will be riding to Sandy Springs as well. Shouldn't be any problems.

That makes me feel safe lulz

OP, you should be fine. Get in a car that has plenty of people.

What I would be worried about is getting to your destination. After the game on Monday, the latest debacle was yesterday where MARTA stranded passengers.
