Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Still, my sympathies to the employees that have no dog in this fight yet will no doubt pay a price for it.

I think it's a situation where the owner took this on as an investment but is not himself gay nor does he have any ideological connection to the patronage. He's been very happy to take their money, however.
I'm of the feeling that the gay entertainment scene in Atlanta is in its sunset years, anyway.

Burkhardts has been in its sunset years since it opened. What a dive!

That's too bad. My wife and her girlfriends (all married and straight) went last year and had a blast. They have all promised to return.

Yes it's a dive but people have fun and the community is vibrant. I'm sure that if this closes there will be others that will popup.

I don’t understand why people hate people of color.
My understanding of the situation from lengthy conversations with gay men over the years is that gay African American males are discriminated against by white gay men due primarily to higher rates of HIV among them.

I don't know if this is the real reason, or just an excuse for regular racism. But the statistics do show it is accurate.

How the hell did a straight racist white man come to own a gay bar in a black city?

I got a really insular and segregated vibe when I went to a few Atlanta gay bars; I think like most gay people of my generation I don't really see the point -- gay people are everywhere in this city. I'd rather go somewhere cool and meet gay people there than go to a gay bar and hope someone cool shows up.

Not surprised to hear this. I have been there before and that place was stink of racism. Sadly, a lot of men who are gay and black will continue to go there regardless because many of them continue to after Blakes. Apparently people have no respect for themselves. I remember after chic-fil-a said what they said about gay marriage. Some people who are gay then went to chick-fil-a. Some kissed in the establishment, held hands or what have you...and then they bought from chic-fil-a. Really??? When I heard this, I said to myself...are people being stupid or are they truly ignorant? You don't boycott a place by buying their product!

Be a wise consumer and put your money where you are respected!!! That's how the impact is made. You have to hurt them in their wallets.
