Georgia Aquarium is planning an expansion, where the current entrance/exit is located, for 2020.
Quote:
The expansion would debut in late 2020, Campbell said.
It would come to the southeast corner of the aquarium property, along Baker Street where the main entrance is today, according to documents submitted in Atlanta and to Central Atlanta Progress.
The aquarium recently submitted a Special Administrative Permit (SAP) to build a temporary entrance on the east side of the aquarium "in order to stay open during construction," says the application. It will be in use from September 2018 through winter 2020. After the expansion is complete, the entrance would shift back to the southeast corner.

I heard that the aquarium threatened to move to Cobb County if the city didn't approve an expansion deal!

If this is true, they'd be screwing themselves moving away form the heart of tourist district and thousands of hotel rooms within walking distance.

$100M, 41K sqft expansion. Georgia Law makers gave the aquarium a $4.5M tax break for the expansion.

The saltwater gallery — which will be named closer to opening — will feature floor-to-ceiling acrylic windows for optimal viewing of shark species that might include hammerheads, sand tiger sharks and sandbar sharks.
