We will be taking a large group of high school age kids on a trip to Atlanta. We will be staying in the Centennial Park area. We were thinking of taking them out to the Atlantic Station area to shop, etc. I would like some insight on the safety of this area. I have seen posts from several years ago addressing this but not recent posts. Also would appreciate information on whether this area would be a good idea or a not so good idea for kids who aren't particularly accustomed to a large metro area. Thanks!

Yes, it's a pretty good idea, and yes, they will be fine. Will this large group of active teenagers be able to roam freely through the station, or will they circulate in smaller groups, each with at least one adult chaperone?

Yes, they will be fine. I would keep it to the daylight hours and check the date to see what special events are going on there. It can be crazy during festivals etc. --still safe enough, but maybe chaotic.

I wouldn't be any more worried about Atlantic Station than downtown. Especially during the day.

Safer than just about any shopping center in Atlanta.

People that claim to be concerned about going to AS are the biggest wimps in the city.

They will not be circulating alone - possibly not with a chaperone but in groups of 2-3 or more together.

This.

They're in much more danger if they leave their downtown hotel than they are at Atlantic Station.
