With your budget, you would have a lot more options in the condominium or apartment market. Condo's were way overbuilt in ATL. Three bedroom units aren't as common and cost substantially more. Is that a must-have?
I'm looking at renting (only); two bedroom is my minimum, three bedroom is not a necessity. I don't want to move into something that's less than 900 sqft, either.

I think that the Tucker area would be your best bet. There aren't that many affordable apartments in the Laurel Ridge district, but if your child can go there because of special needs, then Tucker is only about 5 miles away. Be aware, though, that a small part of Tucker is in Gwinnett County and Laurel Ridge is in Dekalb County. I wish you the best in your search.

Just make sure you stay in the Dekalb side of Tucker. That would mean stay closer to the perimeter. Good luck finding a place and please come back and let us know if you find what you're looking for!

What road or landmark divides the Dekalb district from Tucker school district?

There is no Tucker school district, part of Tucker lies in Gwinnett, but you might want to check, those easily could be better schools. DeKalb schools are (by test scores) the second worse in Metro Atlanta and towards the bottom of the state.

How is this apartment complex, Toco Hill? Rentmoney.com lists Laurel Ridge as the elementary school, but according to the link http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/~plannin...apartments.pdf, lastminutemom provided me yesterday, it's served by Sagamore Hills Elementary.

That is a great area, and a great school.

Yes, it is a very good area. If it has something you like and fits in your budget you will do well to live there. Sagamore Hills is a really good school
